San Joaquin Shut Down

The San Joaquin couloir is one of the most aesthetic lines I have ever seen and it is one that my buddy Mike had been pushing for ever since he saw it in a guide-book.  The weekend was fast approaching and the season was getting late.  The San Juan’s were starting to melt out and the freeze forecast was right at 32 degree low for the night before.  We jumped in the car with all the gear and drove the 7 hours down to Telluride where we had beers and waited for our friend to meet us.  The next day we started the climb at 5 am.  However, and unfortunately when we got half way the snow looked terrible and we decided to abort the plan and ski back down to the car.  Next year…
